Mayflower is composed of C. Shane Sweet and Derek James. While touring nationally over the Summer of '08 with Glass Fence they began to write and develop songs that would make up the Mayflower catalog. Both have been playing with other bands since their teens and decided it would be better to devote themselves to the Mayflower Project and disband Glass Fence. Since then they have begun recording an EP with Grammy Award winning producer David Weisberg (Garden State sountrack).
C. Shane Sweet has been playing guitar since he was 3 years old and has been singing and making songs since he was a child. He grew up listening to country music, the likes of Garth Brooks, George Strait, and Johnny Cash. When he grew older he crossed into modern music ranging from Nirvana to Sublime to Silversun Pickups.
In addition to being a musician, Shane is also a published poet, having his works vaulted in the Int'l Library of Poetry and has also acted since he was a child.
Derek James has been playing bass since he was 14 years old, and moved to Los Angeles to pursue music full time in Los Angeles when he was 18. Being raised on the likes of Paul McCartney and The Beatles, this is to whom he attributes most of his influence. Though he is certainly not limited as his influences range from Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Les Claypool, and Dirk Lance.
